Aspiring For Excellence
We aspire to be the best we can be at what we do!
Our Mission
To strive to be the best we can by expanding our knowledge through training, the use of research trial experiments and by staying on the forefront of evolving agricultural technology. Our goal is to produce the best possible crops with trust and integrity and as good stewards to the land entrusted to us.
How did we get here?
We are a “family” run cash crop farm raising corn, soybeans, and red winter wheat. We also service area elevators and farmers throughout Michigan and Ohio with a small trucking fleet delivering various commodities, as well as seed, fertilizers, and even stone when requested.
A Quick Glance at Our Practices:
Soil Testing:
All acres receive soil tests on a three-year rotational basis. Yield data maps are also utilized with the test results to determine a prescription for nutrient replacement. Variable-Rate Technology is used to apply just the right amount of nutrients in the correct areas.
Fall Tillage:
After corn and soybean harvest. Tillage is Light, with minimal depth to preserve some harvested crop residue on the soil profile. This practice helps to hold fall application of fertilizer to the soil and some of the residue will also decompose adding additional nutrients over winter.
Spring Tillage:
Deeper Vertical Type Tillage to prepare the ground for spring planting.
Rotation Practices:
Farms rotate between corn and soybeans annually, with a few farms being planted to wheat periodically.
We are a MAEAP Verified Farm!
The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) is an innovative, proactive program that helps farms of all sizes and all commodities voluntarily prevent or minimize agricultural pollution risks. MAEAP‘s mission is to develop and implement a proactive environmental assurance program ensuring that Michigan farmers are engaging in cost-effective pollution prevention practices and working to comply with state and federal environmental regulations.
Learn About Cash Farm Leasing in Michigan
Cash farm leasing in Michigan is a mutually beneficial arrangement between a farmer and a landowner. In a cash farm lease, the farmer, such as Hunt Farms, generally pays the landowner a fixed or base amount of rent per acre.
